Promoting container images between registries with skopeo

OpenShift admins choose different architectures for their installations, but many use two discrete clusters to physically divide development and testing workloads from production deployments. We recommend having some Continuous Integration (CI) process in nearly every development scenario, to orchestrate the lifecycle of applications from the initial commit all the way into production. Continuous Integration can […]

Kubernetes and OpenShift: Community, Standards and Certifications

Red Hat has been vocal about the importance of open standards in the containers space and were founding members of both the Open Container Initiative (OCI) and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). The CNCF plays an important role in providing neutral governance for the Kubernetes project and protecting the Kubernetes API standard. This is why Red Hat worked closely with Kubernetes community members like Google, Heptio and others to evolve the automated conformance test harness that ensures Kubernetes platforms and distributions like OpenShift adhere to the standard.

[Podcast] PodCTL #12 - Introduction to CRI-O

While the industry has standardized on Kubernetes as the container orchestration standard, there is still quite a bit of choice and innovation that is happening around container standards. In this week’s episode, we talk with Dan Walsh (@rhatdan, Consulting Engineer at Red Hat, container team lead) and Mrunal Patel (@mrunalp, Principal Engineer at Red Hat, OCI/runc […]

[Podcast] PodCTL #6 – What’s included with Kubernetes?

[Podcast] PodCTL #6 - What's included with Kubernetes?

This week we discuss a topic that often comes up with companies that want to build a DIY platform using Kubernetes. How much is included in the Kubernetes open source project, and how many other things have to be integrated to create a functional platform for deploying applications into production? We explore: What’s included? What’s […]

[Podcast] PodCTL #5 – Understanding the Cloud-Native Ecosystem

[Podcast] PodCTL #5 - Understanding the Cloud-Native Ecosystem

Up until now, we’ve focused the PodCTL show on the basic elements of Containers and Kubernetes. But as we know from building OpenShift platforms for customers, it takes many more elements to deploy, operate and manage a container platform. So this week we sat down with Chris Aniszczyk (@cra, CTO/COO of CNCF, Executive Director of […]

[Podcast] PodCTL #3 – Making Sense of Container Standards

[Podcast] PodCTL #3 - Making Sense of Container Standards

On this week’s show, we shifted gears and move away from discussing Kubernetes, and focused on containers. With the pace of adoption and the pace of change happening in the container ecosystem, it might be difficult to know the status of the latest container standards. To help us better understand this, we invited Vincent Batts […]
