Primary development language(s): PHP
Technology you’re most interested in right now: Node.js, Mongo db and as always PHP
Application currently hosted on OpenShift: POSTOCKS
Technologies used: node.js, mongoDB, express.js, passport.js, jade and stylus
What’s it do?
Postocks is an experimental web application for social media sharing on Redhat’s Openshift Platform. Allows you to develop news content and share them over to users. Users can login to the system with Google, yahoo, AOL or using their open-ids. Implements a responsive design for news media representation making use of css3 and html5.
What motivated you to create the application?
The idea to develop a news website which adopts current design trends was turned out when me and my friend Sreenath were discussing over the current news websites and the orthodox designs followed. We came up with a wireframe for a responsive news website. And the decision to use node.js and mongodb was inspired from my team mates at bookmyshow who always goes around digging and discussing new technologies around the web.
What are the most compelling features of OpenShift?
I have wandered around the web to find out a provider who gives a free mongodb db support, and I met OpenShift. What is most important to point out is, there is 0% headache over deployment.
What are some features you’d like to see in OpenShift?
Websockets support. So that we can deploy the node.js-socket.io apps without downgrading to long polling!! We had voted for it and I believe its implemented by now. Need to try this out.
