OpenShift Commons Briefing #79: Kubernetes 1.7 Release Update with Clayton Coleman (Red Hat OpenShift)

OpenShift Commons Briefing Summary

Kubernetes 1.7 was just released today, so it’s time for an overview and update from Red Hat’s Clayton Coleman, aka @smarterclayton, on the many new features and functions that are included in this release and to find out what the impact will be on your organization’s OpenShift and Kubernetes deployments. Clayton is a core contributor to both Kubernetes and OpenShift, which is Red Hat’s enterprise-grade container platform based on Kubernetes.

The 1.7 release of Kubernetes focused in on extensibility — an extremely important area for the project. Updates include admission control extension, initializers, crd, and API extension. This release also provides important enhancements needed for broad deployment across the enterprise, including stateful set and daemon set updates. And 1.7 adds new security features, such as secrets at rest, node and pod security, and continued improvements to other storage, metrics, and network policy. All of this and more are covered in this briefing and we’ll be hosting a number of additional briefings on other key aspects of Kubernetes 1.7 in the coming months. If you’d like to get notified of upcoming briefings and get invited to our slack channel, please join the OpenShift Commons here: https://commons.openshift.org#join
